Popins to Turn 50 Camp Participants into Holograms

Ever dream of turning yourself into a 3D avatar? MegaCamp is partnering with Popins to make this a real possibility. Spend 5 minutes in the on-site studio and Popins will turn you into a hologram you can send to friends, family, and recruiters.

Kia Young is the quarterback for American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Move Kia on your PC using your mouse or on your phone using your finger to try 3D. For the total Popins experience press or scan the QR code and follow the prompts to bring Kia to life in your world — kind of like trading cards meet Pokémon Go.

Popins is offering this opportunity to attendees of the Mississippi College MegaCamp free of charge as a part of its Global 3D Sports Initiative designed to up the game when it comes to connections between athletes, coaches and fans.

Sign Up to Become a Hologram

  1. You must be a registered attendee of the Mississippi College MegaCamp occurring on June 5, 2024. Sign up here.

  2. 5 minute hologram filming appointments are available on a first come, first serve basis. Make an appointment for your slot below.

  3. Download, complete, and bring both the Release Agreement and the Intake Form. Note that if you are not 18 years of age, a parent or guardian MUST properly sign the Release Agreement. The Release Agreement and Intake Form are available here.

  4. Show up at your scheduled time. Attendees missing their time slot will be accommodated, if possible, on a stand by basis. And note that schedules may vary based on technical and other issues.

 FAQs

  • Popins are filmed in cities around the world with our mobile volumetric video studio. The technology is called volumetric video. Athletes are surrounded by 8 depth-cameras and directed through a series of poses for 30 to 60 seconds.

    Our proprietary software turns the independent streams into a seamless 3D hologram.

  • Volumetric Video is a technology that uses multiple cameras to capture an object in real time and then weaves each recording together through software to create a seamless 3D digital asset that you can view from any angle.

  • No, are not created through mocap (motion capture) or similar technologies. Popins are created through the use of volumetric video technologies which allows the creation of photorealistic holograms without the need for any special filming equipment.

  • Holograms are viewable on almost any smartphone. Viewers click on a link or scan a QR code, follow the prompts, and place your hologram with them whereve they are.

  • Each Popin is a unique URL. Anyone with the link or QR code can access the hologram.

    Popins will create a webpage will all participants from his activity listed along with their accompanying URLs. Beyond that you are free to share your hologram the same way you would share any other link.

  • The only limit is their imagination.

    We expect recruiters to appreciate the idea that they can see you from any angle in 3D.

    For fans, we anticipate that virtual selfies - standing next to the hologram and taking mixed reality photos - will soon be a favorite tailgating activity.

  • That’s correct. Popins is creating these holograms at no charge to the camp or the attendees. And Popins are free to view to anyone in the world with a smartphone.
